The Daily Blotter Weekend Recap December 21, 2015

ALCOHOL ENFORCEMENT

Officers from the Traffic Division of the Operations Support Bureau conducted grant funded DWI patrols on Friday night, December 18. As a result, 2 arrests were made for DWI, 8 traffic summonses were issued along with 4 warnings.

Officers from the Fair Oaks District conducted DWI enforcement patrols throughout the district on Saturday night, December 19. As a result, one arrest was made for DWI.

Officers from the West Springfield District along with those from the Traffic Division, conducted ABC (Alcohol Beverage Control) compliance checks throughout the West Springfield District on Thursday, December 17. As a result, 24 stores were checked; six arrests were made for the illegal purchase of alcohol.

BURGLARY: 12100 block of Queens Brigade Dr. 12/18/15, 10:25 a.m. A resident reported someone entered the residence and took property.

Blog Post: Man Shot in Alexandria Area

ROBBERY: Tamarind St. /Janna Lee Ave. 12/18/15, 11:47 p.m. The 48-year-old victim was walking alone when he was approached by four, black male teens. They surrounded the victim and demanded money. The victim resisted and the suspects began to hit him. He managed to flee and did not surrender any money or property. The victim was transported to Mount Vernon Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. There is no further description of the suspects.

Blog Post: More Shopping Swindlers Arrested

BURGLARY: 1400 block of Chain Bridge Rd. 12/18/15, 6:08 a.m. Complainant reported that someone broke into the business and took property.

MASON DISTRICT STATION

ROBBERY: 3400 block of Glen Carlyn Dr. 12/19/15, 10:17 p.m. A 20-year old man was walking alone when another man approached him, punched him, knocked him to the ground and took his wallet. The victim sustained minor injuries. The suspect fled on foot. He was described as black, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, with dreadlocks. He was wearing all black clothing.

ROBBERY: Courtland Dr. /Washington Dr. 12/20/15, 2:05 p.m. A 19-year-old man was walking alone on a sidewalk when an SUV approached from behind and stopped next to him. A male got out of the right, front passenger seat with a knife in his hand. The suspect threatened the victim with the knife and demanded money. The suspect then rummaged through the victim’s pockets and stole his wallet and cell phone. He then jumped back into the SUV and fled. The victim sustained minor injuries. The suspect was described as Hispanic, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and around 140 pounds. He was wearing a gray, hooded sweatshirt, a gray beanie and blue jeans. The driver of the SUV was described as a Hispanic female, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and around 130 pounds, with red hair. She was wearing gold stud earrings and black pants. There was no further description of the suspect vehicle.

PURSUIT: Rt. 50/Patrick Henry Dr. 12/20/15, 11:10 p.m. An officer observed a Chevrolet Cruz being operated in a reckless manner and attempted a traffic stop. The Cruz did not stop and a brief pursuit ensued, which ended at the Arlington County line. A short time later, officers from the Arlington County Police Department located the Cruz, stopped in the roadway, apparently out of gas. Shayla Perkins, 25, of Washington, D.C. was the driver of the Cruz. She bailed out of the vehicle and fled on foot but was quickly apprehended. Her husband and two children remained in the Cruz. Perkins was charged with DWI with a child passenger, speed to elude, and refusal to submit to a breath test.

FRANCONIA DISTRICT STATION

Blog Post: Fatal Crash in Springfield Area

MALICIOUS WOUNDING: 6200 block of Inter Parcel Rd. 12/20/15, 7:09 p.m. Officers responded for a report of a shot person. When officers arrived, they discovered an adult man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the leg. The victim was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital where his condition was deemed non-life-threatening. Detectives have reason to believe that the suspect and victim knew each other prior to this event and that it was not random. The investigation continues, but there appears to be no overt threat to public safety.

BURGLARY: 10200 block of Faire Commons Ct. 12/19/15, 12:42 a.m. A resident reported that someone entered the residence and took property.

FAIR OAKS DISTRICT STATION

POLICE SERVICE/ASSAULT ON A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER: Rt. 50 westbound, ramp to I66 westbound. 12/21/15, 1:02 a.m. Officers responded to assist Virginia State Police Troopers who were in pursuit of a vehicle. The vehicle crashed and the driver, a 42-year-old, Manassas man, bailed out. A Fairfax County Police K9 team responded, tracked and apprehended the suspect driver. During the arrest, the suspect sustained a dog bite. He was transported to Inova Fair Oaks hospital for treatment. Virginia State charged the suspect.

LARCENY/ASSAULT ON A LAW ENFORCMENT OFFICER: 11750 Fair Oaks Shopping Center. 12/18/15, 4:48 p.m. Plain clothes officers from the Neighborhood Patrol Unit noticed a vehicle being driven by a person they thought to be wanted. During the subsequent stop and investigation, the 18-year-old driver, Johneka Carter, of Washington, D.C., was in fact found to be wanted for credit card fraud. As officers attempted to place her under arrest, a juvenile male occupant of the vehicle exited and attempted to intervene in the arrest process; kicking one of the officers in the head. The juvenile, of Washington, D.C., was arrested and charged with assault on a law enforcement officer. Carter was also charged with felony destruction of property, false id, and obstruction of justice.
