As he approached the intersection, a 26-year-old man stepped into the roadway, against the green light. Unable to avoid a collision, the police cruiser struck the pedestrian.

The officer immediately stopped, reported the incident to dispatch and requested an ambulance to respond. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 11:44 p.m. The officer did not require medical attention.
