Fatal Crash in Great Falls

Reston Police District – A 73-year-old woman from Great Falls died yesterday after her car ran off the road and struck a utility pole. Officers responded to the 500 block of Riverbend Road near Mine Run Road yesterday around 3 p.m. for the report of the single-vehicle crash. Once on scene they located a red, two-door, 2000 Honda Civic. The driver, 73-year-old, Mai-Huong Nguyen, was the only occupant of the Honda. She was taken to Reston Hospital Center where she later died. Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating the crash. It appears that the Honda was traveling south on Riverbend Road, ran off the road to the left and struck a utility pole. The Honda then rolled on to the passenger side and came to rest. Detectives are looking into the possibility that Nguyen might have suffered a medical emergency, causing her to lose control of the Honda. The investigation continues.
