Our Sincerest Condolences to the Virginia State Police

Our hearts are heavy this evening as we mourn the loss of two Virginia State Police [VSP] troopers who died in a helicopter crash near Charlottesville this afternoon. VSP’s helicopter was in Albemarle County due to the clashes stemming from a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville.

Fairfax 1, our agency’s own police helicopter, was also nearby having just brought Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe to the area from Northern Virginia to address the situation. Our officers immediately attempted to assist, but VSP has confirmed both troopers on board its helicopter have died.

Our thoughts and prayers are with our VSP family as well as the families of both troopers who died while serving and protecting the community.

We will continue to provide support to VSP and all our fellow agencies as they work to restore order and bring peace to Charlottesville.
