One Man Dead After Shooting in Office Building

McLean Police District – An investigation is underway after a shooting late this afternoon in an office building in the 8100 block of Gatehouse Road in Falls Church. Initial calls came in to our dispatch center for shots fired at 4:50pm. Officers quickly responded to the scene and determined the shooting was isolated to a law office on the 4^th floor. The shooter, who has now been identified as 52-year-old John Francis Wood of Vienna, died of a self-inflicted gunshot. No one else was injured.

Our officers were able to secure the building and evacuate hundreds of people, including children who were at a daycare on the premises. Those kids were reunited with their families at a nearby middle school.

The investigation is ongoing.
