Can You Help Us Find the Owner of this Dog?

Reston Police District – Animal Protection Police Officers from our Animal Services Division will be out canvassing this afternoon to find the owner of a dog involved in an animal cruelty case.

Last week a dog was found in the area of Chatham Colony Court and Moorings Drive in Reston. It was barely recognizable as a dog and had nearly two pounds of matted hair covering its face and body. Only one of the dog’s eyes was visible as the other was completely covered and infected. Vets are working to determine whether that eye is still functional.

The dog is approximately 7 or 8 years old, and does not appear to be a stray. A medical assessment showed no signs of ticks or fleas, or anything else that would indicate the dog had been left out in the elements for an extended period of time. It is believed the dog was abandoned near this location and officers are working to find its owner. The dog is expected to survive.

Anyone who recognizes this dog or knows where its owner lives is asked to contact the Animal Services Division at 703-691-2131.
