UPDATE: Investigation Continues after Officer Involved Shooting in Falls Church Area

McLean Police District – Our criminal and administrative investigations continue after an officer deployed deadly force last night around 10 p.m. in the 7600 block of Lee Landing Drive in the Falls Church section of Fairfax County.

Officers from the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) entered a house while serving a narcotics search warrant and related arrest warrants. They were confronted by David Vo, 24, of Falls Church, who brandished an assault style weapon. A SWAT officer discharged his weapon striking Vo in the lower body. Officers immediately rendered medical aid and Vo was taken to a hospital where he was treated and released. None of the officers were injured.

Detectives recovered multiple assault style weapons, a pistol and narcotics inside of Vo’s home.

In addition to underlying charges of felony distribution of marijuana and failure to appear, Vo was charged with the following:

Vo remains in custody at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond.

When the criminal investigation is completed, the findings will be presented to the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Fairfax County. The Independent Police Auditor continues to monitor the ongoing investigations and will conduct an independent review when they are completed.

Investigation Continues into Officer Involved Shooting in Falls Church Area

McLean Police District – Officers from the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) were serving a narcotics search warrant and related arrest warrants on January 28 at 10:00 p.m. in the 7600 block of Lee Landing Drive. As the officers entered the house, they were confronted by a man brandishing an assault style weapon. A SWAT officer discharged his weapon striking the man. Officers immediately rendered medical aid to the man who then was transported to a hospital where he was treated and released.

David Vo, 24, of Falls Church, was charged with felony distribution of marijuana and felony failure to appear. Vo is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Additional charges will be forthcoming.

The involved officer is a 16-year veteran of the Fairfax County Police Department and is assigned to the Special Operations Division. As per department policy, the officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal and administrative investigation.

A criminal investigation into the use of force is being conducted by the Major Crimes Bureau.

Chief Edwin C. Roessler Jr. has directed our Internal Affairs Bureau to conduct an administrative investigation in accordance with policy, along with an independent review by the Police Auditor. The name of the officer will be released by Chief Roessler within 10 days.
