Arrests Made in Murder of 73-year-old Nelson Alexander Sr.

SULLY DISTRICT STATION

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY: 14613 Lee Jackson Memorial Highway (Cell Phones and Gifts), 4/11/22, 2:18 a.m. A man forced entry into the business and took property.

MOUNT VERNON DISTRICT STATION

WEAPONS VIOLATION (BRANDISHING)/ DISORDERLY CONDUCT/ ASSAULT: 2600 block of Arlington Drive, 4/9/22, 8:05 a.m. A man produced a machete and threatened the victim. As officers arrived, the man ran away. No injuries were reported. The man has been identified and warrants for his arrest have been obtained. This was not a random act.

MCLEAN DISTRICT STATION

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY: 8100C Old Dominion Drive (The Medicine Chest), 4/10/22, 2:23 a.m. Someone forced entry into the business and took property.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY: 7646 Lee Highway (Happy Tails Dog Hotel), 4/13/22, 6:46 a.m. Someone forced entry into the business and took property.

STABBING: 9400 block of Lee Highway, 4/14/22, 9:30 p.m. Officers were called to the location for reports of a group of men fighting. When they arrived, the victim was found with a stab wound to the upper body. The victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The victim’s condition was later upgraded, and the victim remained hospitalized. Preliminarily, this does not appear to be a random act.

MASON DISTRICT STATION

SHOOTING: 4200 block of Annandale Road, 4/12/22, 1:30 a.m. The victim and a man engaged in a verbal altercation inside a restaurant that became physical. When the victim left in a vehicle, the man got into a Toyota sedan and began following. The man produced a firearm and shot the victim’s vehicle. The victim was struck by gunfire and taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening. Several spent cartridge cases were found in the roadway and the victim’s vehicle sustained damage. No other injuries or damaged property was reported.

FRANCONIA DISTRICT STATION

ARMED ROBBERY/ MALICIOUS WOUNDING: 7700 block of Skyles Way, 4/9/22, 12:36 p.m. A man and a woman arranged to meet to sell items. When they arrived at the agreed location, no one was there.  As they were leaving, a group of men announced a robbery, and a struggle ensued. The man and woman were assaulted, and the suspects ran away. While fleeing, one of the suspects sustained injuries that were not considered life threatening. The victims were taken to the hospital and treated for injuries that were not considered life threatening. Further investigation revealed a 24-year-old man from Alexandria, and a 20-year-old man from Springfield, were involved in the robbery. Both men were charged with armed robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and aggravated malicious wounding.
