Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Lorton 

West Springfield Police District – A 46-year-old man died in a single-motorcycle crash yesterday afternoon. 

At 4:54 p.m., officers responded to the crash near the intersection of Hooes Road and Crosspointe Glen Way in Lorton. The driver, Samuel Gensel, of Springfield was driving a 2001 Harley Davidson north on Hooes Road. Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit preliminarily determined Gensel was unable to negotiate the curve, went off the roadway, struck a driveway and was separated from the motorcycle. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Detectives continue to investigate to determine whether speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

This is the 6 non-pedestrian-related fatal crash in the County to date in 2023. Year to date, in 2022 there were 3 non-pedestrian-related fatal crashes.
