FCPS Instructional Assistant Charged with Assault

Mount Vernon Police District – Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau’s Child Abuse Squad have charged a Walt Whitman Middle School instructional assistant for misdemeanor assault.

On June 9, Walt Whitman Middle School administration notified law enforcement, after a student was assaulted by an instructional assistant. Detectives assumed the investigation in conjunction with Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) Investigators.

On the day of the incident, the student began arguing with the teacher and turned the teacher’s computer off. The teacher confronted the student, and the student came face-to-face with the teacher and flicked his glasses. Mohammad Abid, 58, of Lorton struck the student with a closed fist on the chin. The student then slapped Abid in the face with an open hand. Another instructional assistant intervened and separated Abid and the student.

Neither the student nor the teacher sustained injuries from the assault. Today, Abid was served with a summons releasable warrant for simple assault. No mugshot is available due to summons releasable warrants. Abid has been employed with FCPS since 2015.
