FCPD Launches Final Wave Against Reckless ‘Road Sharks’

Fairfax, VA – The Fairfax County Police Department will leave no stone unturned in our relentless pursuit to make the roadways safer as we start our fourth and final wave of the successful “Road Shark” campaign on Monday, July 31 through Sunday, August 6. During this high-visibility and coordinated enforcement, FCPD continues to deter aggressive driving, reduce crashes, and change driving behavior. Our commitment to safeguarding lives on our roads goes beyond issuing citations but emphasizes education to create a culture of responsible driving habits.

Throughout the Road Shark campaign, the efforts of FCPD and Virginia State Police have been commendable due to their yielding of promising results. Through increased patrolling, traffic stops, and public awareness initiatives, officers have successfully ticketed and warned thousands of individuals engaging in speeding, hands-free violations, and highway sign violations.

During wave 3, officers issued over 5,800 citations and warnings. This campaign has resulted in over a total of 14,600 citations and warnings being issued, with 650 having been for reckless driving on our roadways.

In conjunction with FCPD’s 2023 Monthly Traffic Safety campaigns, Road Shark is an integral part of our approach to keeping community members safe in Fairfax County.
