That’s A Wrap! FCPD’s Road Shark Completes Final Wave With Incredible Results For Fairfax County

Fairfax, VA— The Fairfax County Police Department has successfully wrapped up their 2023 “Road Shark” campaign, issuing close to 25,000 citations and warnings to dangerous drivers on Fairfax County roadways.

For the last few months, officers and troopers around the county have been working tirelessly to educate and ticket drivers exhibiting unsafe driving behaviors. The Road Shark campaign has proven to have a positive impact throughout the county, which has resulted in hundreds of Driving While Intoxicated arrests.

Through the collaborative efforts of FCPD, Virginia State Police, and the support of our community, our roadways are safer throughout Fairfax County. As we conclude this campaign, we remind drivers to allow plenty of time to get to their destination, avoid distracted driving, and be mindful of their speed.

During wave 4, officers issued over 9,850 citations and warnings. This campaign has resulted in nearly 25,000 citations and warnings being issued, with over 1,300 having been for reckless driving on our roadways.

Road Shark may be over, but our officers will continue to be out in full force, enforcing traffic laws, educating our community, and ensuring the safety of our roadways as part of their commitment to the residents of Fairfax County.

In conjunction with FCPD’s 2023 Monthly Traffic Safety campaigns, Road Shark has been an integral part of our approach to keeping community members safe in Fairfax County. Road Shark has contributed to the overall year-to-date reduction in crashes and a year-to-date increase in DWI arrests. There has also been a 55% decrease in fatal crashes in Fairfax County so far this year.
