Man Arrested for Reckless Discharge After Short Standoff

Reston Police District – A man has been arrested after firing a gun multiple times both inside and outside of his Reston townhouse.

This morning around 1:35 a.m., officers responded to a 11900 block of Barrel Cooper Court in Reston for a person shooting a firearm. As officers approached the townhouse, additional gunshots were heard causing officers to take cover and request additional resources.

With the assistance of our helicopter unit, officers observed the suspect outside his residence holding a handgun while appearing to be under the influence. The suspect fell to the ground and dropped the weapon, giving officers the opportunity to take Mark Ellsbury, 43, of Reston into custody. No community members were harmed by the gunshots.
