Status Update of Saito In-Custody Death Investigation

Detectives with the Major Crimes Division have concluded their investigation into the in-custody death of Monty Roy Saito, which occurred on Friday, November 20, 2015. This is our sixth and final informational release regarding this investigation. On Thursday, March 31, 2016, detectives submitted their investigative files and all evidence to the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Fairfax County for review and determination of any criminal liability.

Saito was in the custody of the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office and was found unresponsive in the infirmary unit where he had been housed in the overnight hours of Thursday, November 19. An autopsy was conducted on Friday, November 20, 2015, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the manner of death was accidental.
