Detectives Investigate Homicide in Lorton

Franconia Police District – Police were called to the 9700 block of Hagel Circle on Wednesday, September 7 at 10:36 p.m. for the report of the sound of gunshots and a possible shot person. Officers arrived on the scene and located a male, lying on a sidewalk, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his upper body. Personnel from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department were called in and pronounced the victim dead a short time later. An unidentified vehicle was reportedly observed leaving the scene. A perimeter was quickly established around the crime scene by patrol officers and K9 responded to the area. The police helicopter (Fairfax 1), was requested but was unavailable due to weather conditions.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division, Homicide Section were called to the scene along with technicians from the Crime Scene Section. They continue to actively process the scene; canvassing the neighborhood, seeking information and evidence.
Next of kin has been notified and the victim has been identified as 17-year-old Maurice Anderson Berger, of Lorton.

There is no suspect or vehicle description at this time.
