Music Teacher Arrested for Indecent Liberties against Children; Detectives Asking for Information on Other Possible Victims

West Springfield Police District – A 56-year-old Annandale music teacher is facing eight felony counts of indecent liberties by a custodian for sexually abusing two former students. Detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau’s Child Abuse Squad took custody of Jeffrey Cummins late yesterday afternoon at Washington Dulles International Airport, after obtaining warrants last Thursday night. Cummins was arriving at Dulles from international travel when he was arrested with the assistance of our federal law enforcement partners.

Detectives began their investigation in May 2018 when a juvenile disclosed that he had been inappropriately touched by Cummins over a period of several years. In January of this year, another victim came forward and disclosed he had also been abused for several years by Cummins.

Cummins is a private music teacher and gives lessons in his home in Annandale. He is also the founder and artistic director of Virginia Music Adventures, a traveling music group for school-age children. The investigation showed that the sexual abuse occurred both during music lessons and at other times when the juveniles were at his home. Cummins is also the owner of two Huntington Learning Centers, one located in Tysons and one in Springfield. Detectives would like to hear from anyone who is concerned their child may have had inappropriate contact with Cummins.
