Man Facing Aggravated Sexual Battery Charges at Skilled Nursing Facility in Annandale

Mason District Police Station – A 55-year-old Fairfax man is facing two felony charges after he assaulted a patient at a skilled nursing facility in Annandale. At the request of facility staff, 0fficers responded to the Sleepy Hollow Healthcare Center located at 6700 Columbia Pike around 11 Sunday morning. Geoffrey Smallwood, who is a patient, was reported to have sexually assaulted another patient inside the facility.  Detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau and the Forensics Bureau responded to the scene to assume the investigation.

Smallwood was arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery against a victim suffering from mental incapacity or physical helplessness.  He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and is being held without bond.  Detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau continued their work throughout Wednesday night and Thursday to interview witnesses, staff, connect with family members, and provide victim services.

Smallwood has been at the Sleepy Hollow Healthcare Center since November 2017. Detectives believe there could be additional victims. They would like to hear from anyone who is concerned their family member may have been assaulted by Smallwood,  or anyone with information that could assist in our investigation.
