Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Bailey’s Crossroads

Mason Police District- A 39-year-old man has died as a result of injuries from a crash that occurred around 10 a.m. on Aug. 15. Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit have preliminarily determined that Solomon Zelelew, of Alexandria City, was walking on a sidewalk near Columbia Pike and Carlin Springs Road. A 2015 Toyota Corolla was traveling west on Columbia Pike when the driver, in an attempt to avoid another vehicle, drove onto the sidewalk and hit Mr. Zelelew. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead late last week. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.
