UPDATE: Stolen Vehicle Recovered, Suspect in Custody

Mason District Station – Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau have arrested a 40-year-old Alexandria woman for stealing a car on Sunday night with a six-year-old girl in the back seat.

Officers were in the area of Little River Turnpike and Southland Avenue in Annandale last night on a separate investigation. They were approached by a victim, who had their SUV stolen around 6:50 p.m. in the 6200 block of Little River Turnpike. During the initial report, officers learned the victim left their 2012 Honda Pilot running, while they went inside a restaurant. The victim returned, and the SUV was missing.

Just before midnight, the victim was able to track a phone left in the vehicle and notified our officers the SUV was in the 80 block of S. Bragg Street in Alexandria. Our officers and the City of Alexandria Police Department found the vehicle and saw a woman exit the SUV. The woman, Tanisha Hall, was immediately taken into custody. During the course of the investigation, officers found the stolen 2012 Honda Accord involved in Sunday night’s abduction nearby. Officers also discovered evidence linking Hall to the abduction. 

Hall was taken to the Adult Detention Center and charged with abduction, two counts of grand larceny, credit card theft, false identification to law enforcement and obstruction of justice. Hall was held without bond.

Abducted Child Reunited with Family, Search for Stolen Car Continues

Mason Police District – Detectives from our Missing Persons Squad and Auto Crimes Enforcement Unit (ACE) continue to search for a 2012 gray Honda Accord that was stolen from the 6200 block of Little River Turnpike in Lincolnia last night.  

At 6:30 p.m. officers responded to a parking lot in the 6200 block of Little River Turnpike for an Accord that was stolen with a 5-year-old girl in the backseat. 

Preliminarily, the child’s stepfather left the car running, while he went inside a restaurant to pick up food. When he came back outside, the car and the child were gone. 

Our helicopter and officers from around the county saturated the area while detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau began the Amber Alert process. A lookout for the car and the child were quickly provided to surrounding jurisdictions. 

Around 7:18 p.m., the Metropolitan Police Department was called to the area of 13^th Street and E Street, NW after two community members found the child alone. Fire and rescue personnel were requested to ensure the child was unharmed. Our officers worked with the Metropolitan Police Department to reunite the child with her parents. 

Detectives continue to search for the stolen 2012 gray Honda Accord with Maryland plates 94667CJ. The car has a black hood with damage to the front and back end.
