Serious Crash on Richmond Highway Leaves Juvenile in Critical Condition

Mount Vernon Police District – Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate a serious vehicle crash that occurred at 8:53 p.m., yesterday, on Richmond Highway and Holly Hill Road, in the Groveton area.

Preliminarily, detectives determined that the driver of a 2003 Infiniti, Jermaine Ridgely, 45, of Alexandria, was traveling northbound on Richmond Highway. The driver of a 2010 Nissan Altima was traveling southbound on Richmond Highway and attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot in the 7100 block of Richmond Highway when he was struck by Mr. Ridgely’s vehicle.

A juvenile passenger in the Nissan Altima was seriously injured in the crash and was taken to an area hospital in life-threatening condition and remains hospitalized. Fairfax County Fire Department witnessed the crash and immediately rendered medical aid.

Mr. Ridgely was arrested for driving under the influence and cited for failing to obey a highway sign. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and held without bond.
