Detectives Arrest Man for Stratford Landing Indecent Exposure

Mount Vernon Police District – A 27-year-old man was arrested for an indecent exposure that occurred last week.

At 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, officers responded to the intersection of Camden Street and Wittington Boulevard in Stratford Landing. The juvenile victim was approached by James William Nugent II, of Alexandria in a Toyota Sienna. Nugent lured the victim to his van then exposed himself.

The victim ran away and contacted the police. The victim was not injured. Thanks to a community member in the neighborhood, detectives were provided surveillance of the van seen in the area around the time of the exposure.

Reviewing nearby License Plate Readers led detectives to identify the van and Nugent as the driver. This morning, detectives executed a search warrant at his residence and took him into custody. During the search, detectives found numerous child sexual abuse material. He was charged with Taking Indecent Liberties with Child and 13 counts of Distribution of Child Pornography.

Detectives learned Nugent was employed as a resource teacher at Groveton Elementary School. The victim in the case is not affiliated with his employment.

Through our detectives’ investigation, they believe Nugent exposed himself to at least four additional victims near Stratford Elementary School within the past two weeks.
