Eye in the Sky: Police Helicopter Helps Arrest an Armed Bank Robbery Suspect

Reston Police District — With the help of Fairfax One and a great response from our officers, a bank robbery suspect was quickly arrested after he fled into Maryland.

Yesterday, at 10:59 a.m., officers responded to Wells Fargo Bank at 750 Walker Road in Great Falls for an armed bank robbery. The suspect entered the bank, displayed a firearm and demanded money. The suspect took cash and left in a vehicle prior to officers’ arrival.

Officers immediately began searching the area in adjacent districts. An officer saw a gray Acura disregard a red light at a high rate of speed near I-495 and provided officers with a lookout. Another officer spotted the Acura and provided an updated location until Fairfax One was overhead.

Fairfax One directed Montgomery County police officers to the suspect’s location, where they were able to safely take him into custody. Michael Allen Reid, 61, of Maryland was arrested and evidence of the robbery was found inside the vehicle.

He was transported to Montgomery County Jail and held pending extradition back to Fairfax County on the Bank Robbery charge.
