UPDATE: Man Charged in February Fatal Vehicle Crash

Mason Police District – Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit (CRU) have charged a 23-year-old man with manslaughter following the February 16 fatal crash in Bailey’s Crossroads.

Detectives concluded that Isai Jimenez Paz, of Arlington was driving a Toyota GR86 at a high speed westbound on Leesburg Pike. The driver of a Toyota Corolla attempted a left turn onto a service road near South Jefferson Street from the eastbound lane of Leesburg Pike. Jimenez Paz struck the Corolla.

Each vehicle had two occupants. All four individuals were taken to nearby hospitals for medical attention. On February 21, the passenger from the Corolla succumbed to injuries at the hospital and was pronounced deceased. The remaining three have since been discharged.

Yesterday, detectives charged Jimenez Paz with Manslaughter in connection to the crash. He was released on a secured bond.

Woman Succumbs to Injuries After Car Crash in Bailey’s Crossroads

Mason Police District – A 93-year-old woman has succumbed to her injuries following a traffic crash that occurred in Bailey’s Crossroads last week.

On February 16, at approximately 7:00 p.m. officers responded to the intersections of Leesburg Pike and South Jefferson Street in Bailey’s Crossroads for a crash involving a 2007 Toyota Corolla and a 2023 Toyota GR86.

Preliminarily, detectives determined the driver of the Toyota Corolla turned left onto South Jefferson Street from eastbound Leesburg Pike, in front of the Toyota GR86, which was traveling west on Leesburg Pike, resulting in the crash. The Corolla and GR86 both had two occupants per vehicle. All four occupants involved were transported to area hospitals for treatment.

On February 21, detectives were notified that the front seat passenger of the Toyota Corolla, Gladys Bilbao, 93, of Falls Church, had succumb to her injuries and was pronounced deceased. Detectives continue to investigate whether speed was a factor in the crash.

This is Fairfax County’s seventh traffic crash fatality in 2024. In 2023, there were three traffic crash fatalities year to date.
